PLDT Watchpad subscriptions exceed expectations, says official

From the Sunstar Cebu AN OFFICIAL of an internet service provider in the country said the subscriber take-up of its Internet-based television service exceeded the company’s expectations.

There are now over 500,000 MyDSL subscribers but Dujali refused to disclose the exact number of those who registered for the Watchpad service since the formal report is yet to be filed.

Aside from films, Dujali said the company is also thinking of coming up with a gaming and arcade area for its MyDSL service and planning to feature a live stream video of the Level Up Live—considered as the biggest event in the online gaming industry.

Dujali said the company is also working on getting radio stations to air live sessions over Watchpad.

Before the end of the year, Watchpad will have five more new channels for its subscribers.

Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Co. (PLDT) assistant vice-president and category head for its DSL service Gary Dujali also said the Watchpad feature of PLDT MyDSL will continue to be a free service for its subscribers.

PLDT Watchpad lights up DSL experience VS PLDT Watchpad - EPIC FAIL

I wondered with the heavy advertising for the Pacman rumble how the delivery of the promises would work.  The results are starting to appear online. And the lack of the ability to go full screen is a big problem too.   Read two opposing articles by clicking the links below to blogs.

These are comments from the Pacland's Philippine Boxing Forum
PLDT Watchpad - EPIC FAIL

If PLDT is thinking of marketing this, they better junk the whole system and shop for another one ... it could not even go at par with the illegal Sopcast, TVU, and other live streams ... it kept on disconnecting, pixelated, went slowmo, and finally bogged-out before round 10 was completed.

I had a good experience on watching Manny's 3 last fights on PLDT's Mypad.net ... for this fight, I was enticed to upgrade my DSL connection to 2Mbps Plan 1995, bad decision

Watchpad cannot even go full screen ... it really sucks!!!  Read this viewers comments here (they are not my comments please note)

And another blogger says:  I was utterly disappointed with PLDT watchpad not only was it hyped but it did not deliver what a decent show should during the height of the Pacquiao vs Cotto Firepower.  This comment appears on this blog http://allthingsdigitaldownsouth.blogspot.com/2009/11/pldt-watchpad-hows-your-experience.html

And another blogger writes
Disapppointing service from PLDT WatchPad!!!!

Now that the fight was over, the service appears to be back to normal! But still a disappointment, since the time that PLDT has to deliver a good service... they where knockout like Manny kicking Cotto's b*tt!!

PLDT launches TV over DSL service, Watch TV online on your LCD

Local telecommunications giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. seeks to enlist more broadband subscribers by introducing a new service that makes it easier to watch television over the Internet.

PLDT announced yesterday that through its innovation, “Watchpad,” myDSL subscribers can now watch their favorite TV shows and films online. Initial channels now available include National Geographic, Cartoon Network, Pinoy Box Office, CNN, Animax Mobile, CNBC, and GMA 7.

-
-PLDT Watchpad seeks to provide broadband subscribers a “revolutionary” service that combines a broadband connection with rich multimedia content.

The company announced that the Watchpad service can be best experienced starting with myDSL P1299 monthly plan. The service is available for free to all myDSL subscribers nationwide, who just need to go online at www.pldtwatchpad.com to get their username and password.

-
-PLDT customer sales and marketing group head Eric Alberto said PLDT Watchpad was a fitting demonstration of synergy in the PLDT group made possible by a partnership with Mediascape, its media partner.

“Through the years, we have continuously reached more households more than all competitors with high impact, direct-hitting acquisition programs, which not only raised awareness and relevance of Internet, but also changed the overall complexion of the business,” Alberto said.

He said the company’s commitment to innovate had earned PLDT myDSL “the most preferred broadband status” four times more preferred over the nearest competition.

“There’s something for everyone on Watchpad. While surfing, DSL subscribers can watch the hottest channels, movies and even play online games for free. You can even update your Facebook, Multiply and Twitter accounts without having to leave your Watchpad Player,” said PLDT myDSL assistant vice president Gary Dujali.

He said there would be bigger broadband offerings in the coming months.

Viewer comments:  May I ask why you don’t just go online to the website of the station that has your favorite programs? Places like www.hulu.com and the famous youtube have more programming than you can watch. Don’t forget pbs.org. I once purchased a list of 3,000 online TV stations for about USD $20 and REALLY got my moneys’ worth out of it.

Start here:
http://www.smartdig italtelevision. com/ for more online television than you can possibly watch. And, use your computer hard drive to save the video files. I have an external 500Gig one costs less than USD $100 that works great. You can always burn a DVD if you must have some video for whatever reasons…

You can even watch world shows like ABC, CBS, BBC online and in another blog mentioned you can watch the manny pacquiaofight online next month.
